JR East Japan Railway plans to operate a train which has six tatami-room cars meant to accommodate salarymen and office ladies who want to relax and drink alcohol.
The car has low tables and cushioned seatback chairs along with a foot warmer trough beneath the table. Food and beverages will also be sold.
This is the first time JR is operating Japanese-style compartments. The trains will operate between JR Ryogoku Station in Tokyo and JR Naruto Station in Chiba Prefecture.
It will operate six days a week from December 12 until the 26th and depart from JR Ryogoku at 7:30pm. It will make seven stops in Chiba Prefecture including Kinshicho, Chiba, and Soga Stations before arriving at Naruto at 9:10pm. A yatai stall will be opened at Ryogoku where food and drinks can be purchased and taken onboard the train.
Although a commuter rail pass can be used, all seats are reserved (Green car rates apply)
