Mail left at JR Umeda for 2 months

If you have been waiting for something to arrive but it hasn't, then possibly it is one of the 120,000 pieces of mail that was accidently left undelivered for two months at JR Umeda Station in Osaka.

According to the Japan Post Shin-Koshigaya branch in Koshigaya, Saitama, it was discovered last month that one container with 120,000 pieces of mail which was supposed to be sent to its Shin-Osaka branch in September had been left in the freight yard of JR Umeda Station for two months.

To make matters worse, 45,000 special mailngs (questionnaires about pension details) from the Social Insurance Agency and direct mail were in this container.

The container left the Shin-Koshigaya branch on September 23 and arrived at the Japan Freight Railway Umeda Station yard on September 24 and was supposed to be transported to the postal service Shin-Osaka branch later in the day but was not.

The reason for the mess up? A transportation firm entrusted with delivery of the mail container had lost the delivery slip, failed to confirm the delivery, and had a communication with Japan Post.  Japan Post and the president of Gotsu issued apologies (the usual "I am terribly sorry and feel deeply responsible for all the trouble that I have caused you" statement).  Japan Post says they will investigate further and also improve employee training so that a repeat of this incident won't occur.

Japan Post began delivering the misplaced mail today along with an apology letter .
